Project Objectives

The SHIFT-MED project aims to support the modernization and transformation of higher education institutions in Tunisia and Palestine by enabling them to lead the twin green and digital transitions in line with European and global priorities.

The project seeks to strengthen institutional capacity by embedding sustainability governance within university structures, fostering the development of strategic frameworks, and promoting evidence-based decision-making processes. It focuses on integrating sustainability and digital transformation into curricula, teaching methodologies, and campus operations, ensuring that higher education systems become more inclusive, resilient, and responsive to current environmental and socio-economic challenges.

SHIFT-MED also aims to enhance the skills and competencies of academic and administrative staff through targeted capacity-building activities, while equipping students with essential green skills and digital competences aligned with labour market needs. Furthermore, the project promotes cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange between European and Mediterranean partners, facilitating the transfer of best practices and innovative approaches.

By combining institutional reform, capacity building, and practical implementation through pilot actions, SHIFT-MED contributes to the creation of sustainable, future-oriented universities capable of driving regional development and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
