SHIFT-MED Consortium Defines the Roadmap for Green Curricula and the Next Phase of Implementation
The SHIFT-MED – Shaping the Future of Universities: Twin Transitions across the Mediterranean consortium successfully held its 1st Online Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) on 2–3 September 2026. The two-day meeting brought partners together to assess progress, take key implementation decisions and establish a common roadmap for the next phase of the project.
Building on the work already undertaken in institutional sustainability and green governance, the meeting placed particular emphasis on translating these achievements into academic transformation, green curricula and concrete implementation actions.
From Institutional Sustainability Strategies to Green Curricula
The first day focused on project management, the Steering Committee and progress under Work Package 2 (WP2). Partners presented, discussed and validated the Institutional Sustainability Strategies, identifying necessary adjustments and the next steps for their implementation.
This work provided the foundation for an important discussion on T2.4 – Academic Priorities for Green Curricula. The consortium explored how ecological and sustainability-related themes can be better integrated into higher education programmes and identified priorities for the development of new courses or the updating of existing ones.
Through this process, SHIFT-MED is moving from institutional sustainability planning towards embedding the green transition more directly within teaching, learning and academic development.
Building the Methodology and Roadmap for Academic Transformation
The second day moved the discussions from priorities towards implementation. Partners reviewed the proposed SHIFT-MED platform, identified institutional needs and required functionalities, and considered the technical and design approach for its further development.
Particular attention was then given to the methodology for engaging Sustainability Committees and relevant academic departments in the academic consultation process. The consortium discussed which stakeholders should participate, what information should be collected and how the consultation process should contribute to the expected project outputs.
These discussions resulted in further development of the T2.4 Implementation Roadmap, including the methodology, responsibilities, expected outputs, deadlines and coordination mechanisms that will guide the upcoming activities.
Strengthening Coordination, Reporting and Project Visibility
Alongside the academic discussions, the meeting addressed the operational elements required for effective project implementation. Partners reviewed financial reporting, including the completeness of reports and supporting documentation, as well as dissemination and communication reporting, supporting evidence and pending dissemination activities.
Each meeting day concluded with decisions, responsibilities, deadlines and action points, ensuring that the discussions were translated into concrete follow-up actions.
The two-day TPM therefore represented an important step in connecting SHIFT-MED’s work on institutional sustainability, green governance, curriculum transformation and digitalisation. With a clearer implementation roadmap and shared responsibilities, the consortium is now ready to move forward with the next stage of activities.
